Autumn & Winter

So, the creative streak continues. My daughter and myself have proceeded to create some seasonal  pieces, which can now be found in our booth at Lone Star...... We never imagined finding such beauty in adorning taxidermy deer heads but it is certainly quite an interesting process. My daughter's creation is "Autumn" and mine is "Winter." Please enjoy!

~ Where is Fall ~

~ Fire Place Mantel is getting a little crowded...~
 ~ ETSY...~
Have been patiently waiting for the cooler air to settle in? Where is it? I can almost see the trees leaves beginning to change. Pumpkins have hit the stands, but where is that lovely crisp cool air? It is amazing how a change in the seasons can change a mood. Painting and redecorating seems to flow easier when one is comfortable. Food seems to taste better as well....I am waiting......

Greetings Deer Friends

Let me introduce my daughter's newest creation and inhabitant at our booth in the Lone Star Antique Mall in Watauga, Tx! Nothing like having a little fun with deer head taxidermy mounts and giving them new and unique personalities. This one happens to be a gypsy who is adorned with all vintage items and is simply saying a friendly hello!

~ Time For a Change...~

I have always been fascinated in the way people's tastes have a tendancy to change whether it be food, fashion or decor. I have had those moments several times in my life. Today as I post this blog my wheels are spinning regarding my dining room. Now it is a buttery gold hue with chocolate accents. What if I decided to do a 180 and try out a little gray with pewter accents? Hmmmm...It would make the room lighter and brighter, and above everything else it would be a change. Now the work begins. Choose the paint, decide whether to accent with wall paper, and perhaps different furnishings? In the meantime I am posting some pics of my living room-will the color change in the dining room clash with the colors in my living room and kitchen? We shall see....

Happy Mother's Day!

A little change from the norm. This is the lovely curator's daughter wishing her mom a very happy Mother's Day (even though she is busy working at the hospital today.....). Either way, I felt like photographing a few of my mom's special vignettes and goodies around the house this morning. Happy Mother's Day Mom! I Love You!

~ Not So Swedish.....~

                                                                       ~ After~
~ Before~

Was fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time the other day.....Stopped by a local thrift shop and found this nice, but new, Grand father clock. It is a little cock eyed at the top, but I knew the round top is what I was looking for. I am really fond of the old Swedish standing clocks, but if you price them you will  see quickly why they are not in my budget. So the next best thing was to find a comparable clock with good bones and paint it! Voila!

~ Life Size Surprise...~

Being very fond of old religious collectibles, I was so excited when my daughter took a little trip to Dallas and found this wonderful old Nativity set. Mary is about 4 ft tall so that will give you some idea of the size of these pieces. Were they a part of a Church set up? Who made them? They seem to be made of paper mache covering old spray foam insulation. Cracked and crazed and shabbily painted-just the way we like them...

~ Oh Deer...~

Well, I had a moment before retirng to the bedroom. Have to work tomorrow so I thought I would show a little snapshot of my newest project. I hope all the animal lovers will not hate me. I have had a fascination with the beauty of a deer's face. Lately there are alot of magazines using taxidermy animals as decorating objects. I love animals and never thought in my wildest dreams I would purchase a Deer head and actually want to embellish it in my style. So I went for it! I wanted to be able to redress her for the seasons. The head piece is removable, and the lace is simply tied around her antler....
